Patagonia: Where I Learned That Wine Also Tells Stories
A personal reflection on Patagonia wine, landscape, gastronomy and the idea of understanding wine through place.
Neuquén and Patagonia offer a distinctive cool-climate expression of Argentine wine, defined by freshness, balance and elegance shaped by wind, desert and Andean water, interpreted from the territory by a Neuquén Wine Ambassador.
Based in San Martín de los Andes, I work directly within the territory as a Neuquén Wine Ambassador, connecting producers, landscape and international wine audiences seeking fresher, more precise styles.
A territory-driven perspective shaped by direct experience in Patagonia and an evolving international framework through WSET.
I believe wine is best understood when told directly from its place of origin: the landscape, the climate and the people who shape it.
My work connects vineyards, producers, gastronomy and hospitality with international audiences through real presence in the territory and meaningful storytelling.
This approach helps position Neuquén and Patagonia as distinctive cool-climate wine regions, producing wines defined by freshness, balance, moderate alcohol and a strong sense of place.
Beyond communication, I curate exclusive small-group wine experiences, where Patagonian wines are explored in dialogue with regional gastronomy, mountain hospitality and carefully selected settings.
These experiences are not designed as traditional wine tours, but as a way to understand Patagonia through its wines, landscapes and culture.
Not defined in the cellar, but shaped in the territory.
Real projects where territory, gastronomy and people come together to shape meaningful wine experiences.
Co-creator · Concept Direction
I co-create Vino a la Montaña, a distinctive Patagonian wine event held in San Martín de los Andes.
More than an event, it is a platform to experience Patagonian wines at their source, connecting producers, landscape, gastronomy and culture.
The project continues to evolve, strengthening Patagonia’s voice in the broader wine conversation.
Discover Vino a la MontañaExperience Design · Curation · Strategic Communication
I design guided tastings, immersive wine experiences and strategic wine and hospitality projects that connect wineries, gastronomy and institutions with the authentic identity of Patagonian wines.
This includes curated small-group experiences in San Martín de los Andes, where Patagonian wines are explored alongside regional gastronomy, refined cuisine and the atmosphere of the mountain landscape.
Each project is developed from within the territory, integrating landscape, local culture and hospitality to create experiences that are both meaningful and relevant.
I offer guided tastings, consulting and collaborative projects focused on Patagonian and Neuquén wines, all developed directly from the territory, connecting landscape, producers and gastronomy with international wine audiences.
Head Sommelier · Wine Tourism Development & Communication
I collaborate with Bodega Cutral Co in Neuquén, helping develop its wine tourism identity through team training, storytelling and strategic communication.
Wine is defined long before it reaches the glass. In Patagonia, the character of the wine is dictated by the elements: wind, cool nights and arid conditions. These factors converge to create expressions of remarkable freshness, balance and precision.
In this landscape, specific varieties achieve a distinctive clarity:
Natural acidity is one of Patagonia’s defining characteristics. White wines tend to be aromatic, focused and fresh, prioritising tension over tropical richness.
These wines pair naturally with Patagonian gastronomy, where high-quality local produce and a strong sense of place define the table.
Global wine consumption is shifting. There is a growing demand for balance, drinkability and moderate alcohol. Patagonia, and particularly Neuquén, naturally responds to this shift with wines that offer a precise cool-climate alternative to heavier styles.
These wines are increasingly recognised internationally for their freshness, precision and distinctive identity.
My work focuses on communicating this connection through direct experience within Patagonia. Based in San Martín de los Andes, I specialise in the identity of Neuquén’s six distinctive wine regions.
As a territory-based sommelier, I collaborate with wineries, gastronomy and hospitality projects to communicate real experiences through authentic storytelling. I work from the origin, helping position Patagonian wines for international audiences through strategic communication rooted in the land.
I am Sergio Landoni, a territory-based sommelier working from Patagonia, Argentina.
Based in San Martín de los Andes, in southern Neuquén, my work focuses on understanding wine as an expression of place, shaped by climate, landscape, people and culture.
My approach is not built from theory alone, but from direct experience. I live in the territory, visit vineyards, work alongside producers and collaborate with restaurants, developing a deep connection with Patagonian wine, with a strong focus on Neuquén.
I design wine experiences, tastings and strategic projects where wine is understood in relation to regional identity and gastronomy. I also work in consultancy, helping wineries and hospitality projects position their wines through authenticity and origin-driven storytelling.
I am the creator of Vino a la Montaña, a wine event that brings together Patagonian wineries in San Martín de los Andes, connecting wine, landscape and gastronomy in a unique setting.
My work also includes communication and content focused on Patagonian wine, contributing to its growing presence in national and international contexts. In 2026, I was officially distinguished as the first Neuquén Wine Ambassador, a new institutional role created by the Province of Neuquén to help promote the identity and positioning of Neuquén wines.
I am currently part of Winexperts Patagonia as a regional ambassador, within an international network focused on wine education, certification and connecting wine with new audiences and markets.
I believe in a simple idea: wine is better understood when it is told from the place where it is born.
Patagonia is increasingly recognised as one of the most distinctive wine regions in the Southern Hemisphere, defined by its cool climate, dry conditions and strong sense of terroir.
The region spans several provinces, including Neuquén, Río Negro and Chubut, each contributing to a diverse yet coherent wine identity shaped by wind, latitude and Andean water.
As highlighted by Wines of Patagonia, this southern region produces wines with natural freshness, moderate alcohol levels and a clear sense of place, qualities that align with a global shift towards more balanced and drinkable styles.
Rather than being defined by a single grape variety, Patagonia stands out for its diversity and precision, with each location expressing itself through subtle but meaningful differences.
Understanding Patagonia requires looking beyond the glass and recognising the landscape, climate and people behind each wine.
In 2026, Sergio Landoni was officially distinguished as the first Neuquén Wine Ambassador, an unprecedented recognition created by the Province of Neuquén to promote and communicate the identity of Neuquén wines through territory, gastronomy and culture.
